Soccer Game Preview: Gulfport vs. St. Stanislaus

Gulfport is on a four-game streak of home wins, while St. Stanislaus is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Gulfport Admirals will welcome the St. Stanislaus Rock-a-Chaws at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped with close wins against their previous opponents.

Gulfport's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 win over Sacred Heart. Given the Admirals' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi soccer rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Crusaders are ranked 30th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, St. Stanislaus narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Oak Grove 3-2. That's two games straight that the Rock-a-Chaws have won by just one goal.

Gulfport has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-1-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 31 goals over those seven games. As for St. Stanislaus, their win bumped their record up to 11-0.
