Basketball Recap: Shukri Hussein Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Lincoln

Denver West won the last time they faced Lincoln and things went their way on Friday too. The Denver West Cowboys strolled past the Lincoln Lancers with points to spare, taking the game 48-33. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cowboys.

Denver West's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shukri Hussein led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Hussein has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Marilyn Vega, who posted six points along with 21 boards and six steals.

Denver West smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 36 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in five consecutive matches.

Several Lancers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Oshalaya Davis, who earned 15 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. Hawa Gueye was another key player, putting up ten points along with five blocks and three steals.

Denver West now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Lincoln, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-3 record.

Denver West wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 47-15 win against Englewood on the 11th. As for Lincoln, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-51 victory against Bruce Randolph on the 14th.
