Recap: Maple Mountain Golden Eagles vs. Lehi Pioneers
There's no place like home for the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They had just enough and edged Lehi out 66-64. The victory was all the more spectacular given Maple Mountain's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while Lehi is ranked second).
It was another big night for Matt Peterson, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. Those 27 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Bennett Averett, who scored 15 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Maple Mountain now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Lehi, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Maple Mountain will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Spanish Fork at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Hopefully Spanish Fork focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Saturday. Lehi will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Jordan at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
