Basketball Recap: West Carteret Comes Up Short

West Carteret was the 53-47 winner over White Oak when they last played one another last Monday, but their luck changed this time around. The West Carteret Patriots took a 32-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of the White Oak Vikings. While the Patriots didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Vikings 10-4 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, West Carteret still got an impressive performance from Ella Graham, who posted ten points and seven boards.

White Oak was led to victory by Zamarah Rawls and Sidney Ferguson. Rawls put up seven points in addition to ten rebounds and three steals, while Ferguson scored nine points and three steals. Rawls has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. Aariel Jemison was another key player, putting up three points and three steals.

West Carteret's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 10-5. As for White Oak, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-9.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Richlands the next time they take the court. West Carteret will host Richlands at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, while White Oak will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
