Baseball Recap: Odem Owls vs. San Diego Vaqueros
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Odem can now relate to. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the San Diego Vaqueros on Friday. The Owls haven't had much luck with the Vaqueros recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Payton Simmons was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Simmons wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Austin Marroquin, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Odem's loss dropped their record down to 17-10. As for San Diego, their win bumped their record up to 15-11-1.
While Odem had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Saturday.
