Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Marylylah Chappell and Ayana Kincade Lead Hernando to Victory

Hernando won against Central last Friday with 39 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. The Hernando Leopards narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Nature Coast Tech Sharks 39-37. This was a revenge game for the Leopards: when they faced off against the Sharks back in January, they had to take a 43-37 defeat.

Hernando was led to victory by Ayana Kincade and MaryLylah Chappell. Kincade posted 18 points, while Chappell had 13 points. That's the most points Chappell has posted since back in December of 2024.

Nature Coast Tech's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madelyn Depetrillo, who went 5 for 9 en route to 10 points. Gabby Dross was another key player, putting up 14 points and five steals.

Hernando now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Nature Coast Tech, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-11.

Hernando wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 48-16 victory against Hernando Christian Academy on the 30th. Nature Coast Tech has also already played their next game, a 40-8 win against Central on the 31st.
