Softball Recap: Espanola Valley Wins Going Away Against Pecos

The Espanola Valley Sundevils made easy work of the Pecos Panthers on Friday and carried off a 16-1 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Sundevils.

Kayla Quintana made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Dionicka Maestas and Leah Vigil did most of the damage at the plate: Maestas scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Vigil scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Maestas a new career-high in doubles (three). Aliya Rael-Lopez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

Espanola Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .773. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in six consecutive contests.

Espanola Valley's victory bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Pecos, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.
