Basketball Recap: Nokomis Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Nokomis fought the good fight in their overtime game against Gillespie on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 60-50 to the Gillespie Miners. The Redskins were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Miners earlier this season, when they won 47-43.

Several Redskins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Natalie Brownback, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Those ten boards gave Brownback a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alivia Sabol, who posted ten points and six rebounds.

Nokomis' defeat ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-3. As for Gillespie, their win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-5.

Nokomis and Gillespie should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. Nokomis (ranked 120th) will meet North Mac (ranked 453rd) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Nokomis is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.5 points per game this season. Similarly, Gillespie (ranked 148th) will meet Bunker Hill (ranked 631st) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
