Softball Recap: Monmouth United Find Success

Monmouth United's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Bushnell-Prairie City Spartans by a score of 15-12. Considering the Red Storm's hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Mallory Giddings and Aubrey Bainter did most of the damage at the plate: Giddings went 2-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Bainter scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Those runs marked the first that Giddings scored this season. Another player making a difference was Ava Westart, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Monmouth United kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Monmouth United's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Bushnell-Prairie City, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monmouth United will face off against Monmouth-Roseville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Bushnell-Prairie City, they will square off against Galva at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
