Baseball Recap: South Eugene Axe vs. South Medford Panthers
South Eugene had lost ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-16 to make it 11. They lost 12-3 to the South Medford Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, with their most recent loss being a 7-2 defeat back in April.
South Eugene saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gino Humphrey, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for South Medford, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-9. Considering they have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
On South Medford's side, Maximus Ihli looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, Ihli posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, Easton Douglas and Brad Love did most of the damage at the plate: Douglas went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one stolen base, while Love went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three RBI gave Douglas a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Keegan Painter, who went 2-for-5 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
