Basketball Recap: Owyhee Comes Up Short

Owyhee was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss dating back to last season. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 51-46 heartbreaker at the hands of the Jackpot Jaguars. The Braves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Jaguars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Jackpot was led to victory by Angel Martinez and Jorge Avila. Martinez went 11 for 21 on his way to 27 points in addition to eight boards and three steals, while Avila dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 boards. Martinez continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Giovanny Rios, who posted two points along with 12 boards and three steals.

Owyhee's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Jackpot, their record is now 5-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Owyhee will take on Lund at 6:30 a.m. on Friday. As for Jackpot, they will face off against Varsity Opponent at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
