Volleyball Recap: Marathon Takes a Loss

After a string of three wins, Marathon's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Auburndale Eagles by a score of 3-2. The Red Raiders were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Marathon wouldn't go down easily and took Auburndale into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-13, 25-16, 26-28, 22-25, 18-16.

Emma Love paced Marathon's offense, picking up 17 kills. Love got some help from Mayven Schneider and her 27 assists. Schneider was also solid from the service line: she led the team with six aces.

Leading Auburndale to victory were Lanie Richardson and Alexis Godard. Richardson had nine digs and one assist, while Godard had five digs and four aces. That's the most aces Godard has posted over her last six matchups.

Marathon now has a losing record of 11-12. As for Auburndale, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 20-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matches. Marathon will challenge Pacelli at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Auburndale, they will take on Pittsville at 7:00 p.m. on the 16th.
