Basketball Game Preview: Somerset Prep vs. Saint Andrew's Scots

Somerset Prep hasn't had much luck against Saint Andrew recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Somerset Prep will look to defend their home court against the Saint Andrew's Scots at 7:00 p.m.

Back in December of 2024, Somerset Prep came up short against Doral Academy and fell 57-47. While losing is never fun, Somerset Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 569th, while Doral Academy is ranked 171st).

Meanwhile, Saint Andrew's came tearing into Tuesday's game with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Buccaneers 78-42. The Scots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 21 points or more this season.

Saint Andrew's win came from a few key players Somerset Prep will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brendan Gerard, who went 6 for 9 on his way to 14 points in addition to eight steals and seven assists. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Xander Gerard, who went 7 for 10 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds.

Saint Andrew's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31.3 points. As for Somerset Prep, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-7.

Somerset Prep was taken down by Saint Andrew's 84-52 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Saint Andrew's Alex Montes, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds.
