Baseball Recap: Yreka Drops Highest Score of Season Against Anderson

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Yreka). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Anderson Cubs a 23-0 shutout on Tuesday. That's more bragging rights for the Miners, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Brody Zediker made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Yreka is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-12 otherwise. Zediker was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Laydon Luce and Gabe Gregg did most of the damage at the plate: Luce got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Gregg went 3-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Luce is becoming a predictor of Yreka's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 3-12 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Zane Vann, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Yreka was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .514. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Yreka's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 7-13. As for Anderson, they dropped their record down to 1-13 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Yreka beat the Cubs by a score of 19-0 on Thursday.
