Baseball Recap: Monarch Drops Season-High Score on Mead

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Monarch ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-10 win over the Mead Mavericks. The Coyotes' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Charlie Pearce was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs. He has become a key player for Monarch: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chase Knudsen, who went 3-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. Preston Hutchings was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The victory was the third in a row for Monarch, bringing their record up to 6-11. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Mead, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season.

Monarch wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 3-2 loss against Horizon on the 1st. As for Mead, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-7 victory against Fairview on the 1st.
