Basketball Recap: Southmont Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Ella Barry and Layla Gomez

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Southmont can now relate to. They took a 60-44 bruising from the Parke Heritage Wolves on Saturday. The loss continues a trend for the Mounties in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now lost eight in a row.

Southmont's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Layla Gomez, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Ella Barry, who posted 11 points and three steals. Gomez has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last five times she's played.

Emma Simpson was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 26 points and nine steals for Parke Heritage. That's the most points Simpson has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Raegan Ramsay, who went 6 of 13 to rack up 14 points and three steals.

Southmont's loss dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Parke Heritage, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 22-4.

Southmont does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Parke Heritage, they and Monrovia will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Monrovia is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.2 points per game this season.
