Hutchinson scored a stunning upset when it knocked off Maize, 33-31. At the time, the Eagles were ranked 10th in the state, while the Salt Hawks were 29th.
Hutchinson was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Maize. Randy Dreiling's team came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
Malik Veal was a beast in the backfield as Central bested Hays.
Veal was a passing and rushing force as the Mustangs topped the Indians.
Zach Nachbar was the best receiver in Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail Division I this week as South defeated Great Bend. Nachbar tallied 4 receptions for 96 yards. Mitch Roets helped South's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 43 yards.
6-foot-3 quarterback JW Maldaner of Central is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,386. He has also thrown 6 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Nachbar. The South star has 36 catches for 919 yards.
Maldaner of the Michael Hall's team is just 8 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Maldaner has rushed for 992 yards on 140 carries so far this year.
The Cougars' Nachbar is a few successful plays short of surpassing 1,000 yards receiving this season. He needs only 81 receiving yards against West to hit that benchmark. So far this year, he has garnered 36 catches for 919 yards.
Haysville Campus scaled the state rankings by moving to 148 from 176 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Colts were able to move up by besting North 28-2.
