Basketball Recap: Berkeley Prep Comes Up Short

Berkeley Prep played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 75-25 loss at the hands of the Riverview Sarasota Rams. While losing is never fun, the Buccaneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 335th, while the Rams are ranked 46th).

Despite the defeat, Berkeley Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lila Grace Strain posted ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anara Patel, who scored six points.

Riverview Sarasota's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zara Noto led the charge by going 7 of 14 en route to 16 points in addition to seven steals and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Noto a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Taylor Davidson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards.

Berkeley Prep's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Riverview Sarasota, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-3.

Berkeley Prep wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 57-45 victory against Classical Prep on the 28th. Riverview Sarasota has also already played their next contest, an 82-10 win against Lennard on the 29th.
