Basketball Recap: Friday's Win Is Walden Grove's Ninth in Last 12 Outings

Walden Grove hadn't done well against Sahuarita recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Walden Grove Red Wolves snuck past the Sahuarita Mustangs with a 53-49 victory. This was payback for the Red Wolves, who suffered a 67-13 loss the last time these two teams met.

Sahuarita lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jocelyn Ortega, who posted 15 points and five rebounds. That's the most boards Ortega has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Benitez, who earned five points along with eight boards and five assists.

Walden Grove is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Sahuarita, they dropped their record down to 7-10 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walden Grove will venture away from home to square off against Ironwood Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Sahuarita, they will head out to face off against Amphitheater at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Amphitheater will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Sahuarita surely won't give up without a fight.
