Baseball Recap: Grainger Wins Going Away Against Volunteer

Grainger won the last time they faced Volunteer and things went their way on Friday too. The Grizzlies put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 16-6 victory.

Kade Lucas and Luke Wallace did most of the damage at the plate: Lucas scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Wallace went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Lucas also brought in three RBI, which is notable because Grainger is 3-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 3-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Connor May, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Grainger's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-11. As for Volunteer, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-13.

Grainger and Volunteer could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings. The Grizzlies will challenge Unicoi County at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (226 vs. 93). Meanwhile, Volunteer (ranked 263rd) will meet Morristown-Hamblen West (ranked 49th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
