Football Game Preview: Kearny Komets vs. Canyon Hills Rattlers + How To Watch

Kearny has gone a perfect 3-0 against Canyon Hills recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Komets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rattlers at 7:00 p.m. This will be Kearny's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.

Kearny fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Morse on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 20-14 to the Tigers. The defeat was just more heartbreak for the Komets, who fell 28-25 when the teams last met back in September of 2019.

Despite the loss, Kearny had strong showings from Jaylen Hill, who rushed for 122 yards on only 14 carries, and Makai Nguyen, who rushed for 91 yards and one score. Hill's longest rush was for an impressive 55 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Kearny also got a significant boost from Brendan Duncan, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 91 yards.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Canyon Hills, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They breezed past Clairemont to the tune of 28-0 on Friday.

Canyon Hills found their leader in sophomore Makahi Fields-Cook, who rushed for 151 yards and one TD on only 12 carries. Fields-Cook's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 121 rushing yards.

Canyon Hills' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.3 points on average over those games. As for Kearny, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Kearny has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 160.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Canyon Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging 166.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
