Basketball Recap: Jack Gioffre's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fredericksburg over Canyon Lake

Fredericksburg suffered their biggest loss since January 30, 2024 on Friday. They came up short against Canyon Lake, falling 53-31. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Billies' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.

Fredericksburg lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jack Gioffre, who posted 16 points. His evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Austin Greene was another key player, putting up six points and seven boards.

Canyon Lake was led to victory by Carter Williams and Dalton Stromquist. Williams dropped a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Stromquist went 6-for-7 to rack up 13 points. That's the most points Williams has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Phoenix Fuentes, who had seven points along with five assists and three steals.

Fredericksburg's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 18-14. As for Canyon Lake, their record now sits at 14-18.

Fredericksburg didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 44-28 victory against Navarro on the 11th. As for Canyon Lake, they have also already played their next matchup, a 62-42 win against Bandera on the 11th.
