Basketball Recap: Front Range Christian Takes a Loss

Front Range Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 64-33 loss at the hands of the Flatirons Academy Bison. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while the Bison are ranked 134th).

Despite the loss, Front Range Christian still got an impressive performance from Shayla Hajka, who posted seven points along with nine boards and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Hajka a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (50%). Sara Porter was another key player, putting up nine points.

Annabelle Rakers was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 29 points and 11 steals for Flatirons Academy. That makes it three consecutive games in which Rakers has scored at least a third of Flatirons Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Nehrbass, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds.

Front Range Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 6-13. As for Flatirons Academy, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 15-4.

Coming up, Front Range Christian will be playing in front of their home fans against Estes Park at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Flatirons Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-18 win against Kiowa on the 22nd.
