Softball Game Preview: Spooner Rails vs. Ladysmith Lumberjacks

The Spooner Rails will face off against the Ladysmith Lumberjacks at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Spooner has four straight wins, Ladysmith has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Spooner had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt St. Croix Falls on Friday. The Rails blew past the Saints 8-2. The result was nothing new for the Rails, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Ladysmith scored the most runs they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They took an 18-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of Chetek-Weyerhaeuser.

Spooner pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Ladysmith, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.

Spooner took their victory against Ladysmith when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-0 score. Do the Rails have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lumberjacks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
