Football Recap: Deer Valley Takes a Loss

Deer Valley extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 4-4. They were outmatched by the Pittsburg Pirates and fell 51-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Wolverines were not able to get on the board.

Adrian Masaniai threw for 110 yards on 16 of 36 attempts. Maurice Johnson was his top target, picking up 42 receiving yards.

As for Pittsburg, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. That looming 51-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

A big part of Pittsburg's victory came down to the chemistry between Javale Jones and his top target Rolph (RJ) Mosley Jr.. Jones threw for 94 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes while Mosley Jr. picked up 143 receiving yards and two TDs. The bulk of those receiving yards came from one huge play: a catch that gained an incredible 73 yards. Another player making a difference was Carlos Torres, who threw for 185 yards and two TDs while completing 73.3% of his passes.

Looking ahead, Deer Valley will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Heritage at 7:00 p.m. The Wolverines will be up against the Patriots' rather soft defense (which has allowed 29.25 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Pittsburg, they will head out to challenge Freedom at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Pirates will be up against the Falcons' rather soft defense (which has allowed 45.63 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
