Recap: Roncalli Royals vs. Ben Davis Giants
After a string of three wins, the Roncalli Royals's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of Ben Davis by a score of 56-53. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Roncalli came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Ben Davis is ranked 146th).
Despite the loss, Roncalli saw an underclassman step up: Lydia Stahley scored 13 points along with 7 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Turk, who scored 9 points along with 6 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Roncalli were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ben Davis only pulled down eight.
Among those leading the charge was Zoe Wheeler, who scored 26 points along with 3 steals. The match was her third in a row with at least ten points. Aleia Sultzer was another key contributor, scoring 9 points.
Roncalli's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Ben Davis, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-7.
Roncalli will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory at 7:30 p.m. on December 15th. As for Ben Davis, they will head out on the road to face off against Pike at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pike has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.
