USC-bound QB threw for 12,014 yards and 152 touchdowns in just three seasons. The whispers about the reclassification of
JT Daniels, thought to be just internet chatter, turns out to be true.
Regarded as the top junior quarterback in the country and coming off an undefeated state and national championship season at
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), Daniels announced via Twitter on Friday that he's reclassifying to the Class of 2018.
That means he'll be signing his letter of intent to the University of Southern California and joining the Trojans next fall.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder punctuated a remarkable season and career by accounting for five touchdowns in a
52-21 win over then 15th-ranked De La Salle in the state championship bowl game Dec. 16 at Sacramento State.
In 2017, Daniels completed 262-of-365 passes for 4,123 yards and 52 touchdowns with just four interceptions. He also rushed for 556 yards and nine touchdowns.
For his three-year career, he completed 68 percent of 1,101 passes for 12,014 yards and 152 touchdowns and just 14 interceptions.
He is considered the front-runner for the 2017 MaxPreps Player of the Year, after earning the MaxPreps national Sophomore of the Year in 2016.
There are several basketball players who have reclassified — the most notable lately is current Duke standout Marvin Bagley III — but football is a little more unusual. Central (Miami, Fla.) star running back James Cook reclassified following his freshman year and he just completed his junior season.
Daniels, a straight-A student, will finish his prep career on an absolute high note.
