Baseball Recap: Lincoln Has No Trouble Against Denver West

While Lincoln didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the Denver West Cowboys 17-1 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won five contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Oliver Flores made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Sam Trujillo was a standout: he scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Gio Castro was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.

Lincoln kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matchups.

Lincoln pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Denver West, they are on a 29-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Lincoln beat the Cowboys by a score of 19-3 later that day.
