Recap: Westlake Academy Blacksmiths vs. Covenant Classical Cavaliers
The Westlake Academy Blacksmiths came into Friday's matchup having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They breezed by Covenant Classical at home to the tune of 55-13 on Friday. The team ran away with 43 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those to pick up the win.
Westlake Academy found their leader in underclassman Maya Sonday, who scored 24 points along with seven steals and five assists. That makes it six consecutive games in which Sonday has scored at least a third of Westlake Academy's points. Lexi Burdick was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with three steals.
The win got Westlake Academy back to even at 13-13. As for Covenant Classical, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.
Westlake Academy will square off against Stephenville FAITH at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Westlake Academy is coming into the contest with six straight wins on the road, so Stephenville FAITH is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. Covenant Classical is on the road again on Friday and plays Calvary Academy at 6:00 p.m. on February 9th.
