League recap: Father Tolton climbs in standings with win

Father Tolton was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 24th to 19th in Freelance. Father Tolton beat Father Tolton 55-14 earlier in the week.

Hogan Prep Charter extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Southwest Early College, 64-0. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Rams.

South Callaway's dynamic duo of Jason Kimminau and Cory Hanger proved tough for Father Tolton to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Kimminau threw for 100 yards and one touchdown and Hanger had 45 yards receiving. Bradley Smart helped South Callaway's passing attack out by catching two balls for 21 yards.

Robert Verge was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 88 yards on 12 carries as Thomas Academy beat Father Tolton. Trayvon Sterling also contributed to the rushing game with 36 yards on the ground.

Central's Thomas Sorg and Tavian Neal have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Freelance in both passing and receiving yards. Sorg has thrown for 1047 yards this season, while Neal, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 22 catches for 448 yards. The Chiefs' Verge leads the league in rushing yards with 1015.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Rockhurst and Hickman. The Hawklets enters the contest ranked third in the state, while the Kewpies ranks seventh.

McDonald County moved up to 143 from 183 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Mustangs climbed the ranks as a result of losing to Nevada 35-26.
