Recap: Stanton Mustangs vs. West Point-Beemer Cadets
The Stanton Mustangs were the 51-42 winner over the West Point-Beemer Cadets when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. Stanton had to suffer through a rough 61-31 loss at the hands of West Point-Beemer. Stanton was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-13.
Stanton's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Barrett Wilke, who scored 19 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals, and Tanner Simmerman who scored 6 points along with 7 rebounds. Wilke scored a full 61.3% of Stanton's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
West Point-Beemer's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hunter Swanson led the charge by scoring 18 points along with 3 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Swanson has scored at least 25% of West Point-Beemer's points. Peyton Penrose was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Stanton still hasn't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.3 points per game. As for West Point-Beemer, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
