Basketball Recap: Saad Lavender's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Blacksburg over Landrum

It was a proper cat-fight when Blacksburg challenged Landrum on Tuesday. The Blacksburg Wildcats fell 65-57 to the Landrum Cardinals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 70-58 back in January.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Saad Lavender, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. That's the most boards Lavender has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cameron Cobb, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 15 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Blacksburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Landrum to victory, but perhaps none more so than Benett Edwards, who went 5 of 10 to rack up 14 points along with eight boards and five assists. Edwards is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last five games he's played. Cooper Tidwell was another key player, putting up 14 points and six rebounds.

Blacksburg's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Landrum, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-6.

Blacksburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 61-49 win against Brashier Middle College Charter on the 7th. As for Landrum, they have also already played their next contest, a 74-71 victory against Chesnee on the 7th.
