Basketball Recap: Colby Comes Up Short

Colby was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 43-42 heartbreaker at the hands of the Gilman Pirates. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 53-29 back in December of 2024.

Gilman found their leader in freshman Reece Weir, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Weir has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kayleigh James, who posted 12 points and three steals.

Colby's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Gilman, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-6.

Colby has already played their next contest (against Spencer), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Gilman won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Cornell at 5:45 p.m. on Friday.
