Basketball Recap: Shelby Gaines' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bishop Snyder over Orange Park

If Bishop Snyder was riding high fresh off their 60-9 takedown of Clay last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The match between the Bishop Snyder Cardinals and the Orange Park Raiders didn't end well, with the Bishop Snyder Cardinals falling 60-45. The Cardinals haven't had much luck with the Raiders recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Bishop Snyder lost on Thursday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Shelby Gaines, who went 6 for 10 en route to 12 points along with eight boards and four steals. Gaines is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Knight, who posted 13 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Bishop Snyder smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Orange Park found their leader in freshman Trinity Dinkins, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance also gave Dinkins a new career-high in assists (four). Jayde Brant was another key player, putting up 14 points and four steals.

Bishop Snyder's defeat dropped their record down to 17-5. As for Orange Park, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-9.

Bishop Snyder and Oakleaf will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for Orange Park, they will challenge Ridgeview at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Ridgeview will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Orange Park surely won't give up without a fight.
