Recap: Newton Tigers vs. Quitman Panthers

If the Newton Tigers were riding high off their 59-21 takedown of the Clarkdale Bulldogs last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Newton took a 58-43 bruising from Quitman on Saturday. It was the first time this season that Newton let down their fans at home.

Leading Quitman to victory were AUDRIANA HARRIS and KIARRA THOMPSON. HARRIS dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds, while THOMPSON scored 21 points along with six rebounds and four blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points THOMPSON has scored all season. Another player making a difference was AIYANNA DEAR, who scored eight points along with two steals.

Newton's defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-4. As for Quitman, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

Newton will be playing at home against Lake at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Quitman, they will head out on the road to take on Forest at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Forest will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 91st, while Quitman is ranked 16th).
