Softball Recap: Baldwin Comes Up Short

Baldwin had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 2-5 to make it six. They came up short against the Santa Fe Trail Chargers, falling 11-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 6-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

As for Santa Fe Trail, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games.

For Santa Fe Trail's part, Gretchen Huizenga made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. Huizenga has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Baldwin beat Santa Fe Trail by a score of 4-3 later that day.
