Football Recap: Briarcrest Christian Comes Up Short

If Briarcrest Christian was riding high fresh off their 65-6 takedown of St. Benedict at Auburndale last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Saints took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southwind Jaguars on Thursday. The matchup was a 21-21 toss-up at halftime, but the Saints couldn't quite close it out.

Despite the loss, Briarcrest Christian still got an impressive performance from Hudson Tucker, who threw for 231 yards and five touchdowns, and also rushed for 71 yards on only nine carries. Tucker is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for four or more in each of the last three games he's played. Jd Donaldson did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 104 receiving yards.

Kelvin Perkins continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Southwind, rushing for 97 yards and one TD on only eight carries, while also throwing for 152 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 81.2% of his passes. Perkins didn't just play on offense: he also made two total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Jordan Daniels, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Briarcrest Christian suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 4-2. As for Southwind, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Briarcrest Christian will take on Christian Brothers at 7:00 p.m. on the 3rd. The Saints are facing the Purple Wave at the right time seeing as the Purple Wave are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Southwind, they will challenge Kirby at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
