Basketball Recap: Richfield Comes Up Short

If Richfield was feeling good fresh off their 70-43 takedown of Tartan last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Richfield Spartans were outmatched by the DeLaSalle Islanders and fell 72-36. The matchup marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Richfield still got an impressive performance from Desirai Chappell, who went 9 of 21 on her way to 21 points and four steals. The contest was Chappell's sixth in a row with at least ten points.

Even though they lost, Richfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Richfield has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-4 record this season. As for DeLaSalle, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-3.

Richfield and DeLaSalle should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings. Richfield (ranked 84th) will meet Columbia Heights (ranked 344th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Richfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.6 points per game this season. Meanwhile, DeLaSalle (ranked 12th) will meet Fridley (ranked 218th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
