Softball Recap: Hernando Triumphs

Hernando extended their postseason success on Wednesday against Madison Central. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Jaguars a 5-0 shutout. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Jaguars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Not much got past Haylee Jackson, who gave up just four hits to keep Madison Central off the board. Jackson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hernando let Macie Dever Boaz and Olivia Higginbotham run wild. Dever Boaz got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Higginbotham went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jayla Sites, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hernando kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.

Hernando's win bumped their record up to 32-2. As for Madison Central, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-9.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Hernando beat the Jaguars by a score of 11-1 later that day.
