Football Recap: Garinger Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Garinger was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were beaten by the South Mecklenburg Sabres 63-6. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 335th, while the Sabres are ranked 54th).

Despite the loss, Garinger saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zykerion Pharr rushed for 145 yards and one TD. With that strong performance, Pharr is now averaging an impressive 103.6 rushing yards per game.

Garinger's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for South Mecklenburg, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Garinger will challenge West Mecklenburg at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for South Mecklenburg, they will host Myers Park at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' defense has only allowed 10.3 points per game this season, so the Sabres' offense will have their work cut out for them.
