Owen has gone 9-1 against Mitchell recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Warhorses will host the Mountaineers at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Owen will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Draughn on Friday. The Warhorses put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 11-1 win.
Sophie Neal made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Neal was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mia Roland, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Elly Wright was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.
Owen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Mitchell came into Friday's match having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past Mountain Heritage 12-2 on Friday.
Like Owen, Mitchell also got a great game from a two-way player: Grace Willis. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Willis has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Mitchell got a massive performance out of Emma Cook, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Kylee Miller, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Owen has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Mitchell, their win bumped their record up to 5-8.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Owen has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. However, it's not like Mitchell struggles in that department as they've averaged .446. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Owen's way against Mitchell when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Owen made off with a 9-1 victory. Do the Warhorses have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mountaineers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
