Baseball Recap: Liberty Gets the Win

Liberty proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by six) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Chapin Huskies 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Patriots have posted since February 22nd.

Jackson Payne tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cassler Wicks, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin McPherson, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Liberty always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive games.

Liberty's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Chapin, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-8.

Liberty has already played their next matchup, a 17-16 win against El Paso on the 7th. As for Chapin, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 14-2 defeat against Monterey on the 6th.
