Steve-Rae Garcia-Zamora was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than 14 strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Dee Moore was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. Harmony Steenhard was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.
Washington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Franklin Pierce took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Orting 6-5.
Leila Kennach spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
At the plate, Franklin Pierce got a big performance out of Laneigha Garcia, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiley Sledge, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Washington's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 11.7 runs this season. As for Franklin Pierce, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
