Baseball Recap: Montgomery County Picks Up Second Consecutive Victory

Montgomery County lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Blazer, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Saturday's matchup. The Indians' pitcher stepped up to hand the Tomcats a 12-0 shutout on Saturday. The Indians not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since March 22nd (when they won 16-4).

Montgomery County got a great performance from Jordan Howard as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Howard has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jayse Mays, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Jaimen Caba also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Montgomery County and bumps their season record up to 11-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Blazer, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Montgomery County will be playing in front of their home fans against Fleming County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Blazer, they will venture away from home to take on Spring Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
