Preview: Oak Grove Eagles vs. Leland Chargers
The Oak Grove Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Leland Chargers at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Leland took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Oak Grove, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, Oak Grove didn't have too much trouble with Lincoln on the road as they won 22-7. The victory was just what Oak Grove needed coming off of a 35-14 loss in their prior contest.
Meanwhile, Leland's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They were beaten by Live Oak 44-13. While losing is never fun, Leland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 702nd, while Live Oak is ranked 243rd).
The losing side was boosted by Luke Whitson, who gained 75 total yards and two touchdowns.
Oak Grove has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 3-4 record this season. As for Leland, their defeat was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-6.
Oak Grove beat Leland 21-12 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Oak Grove since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
