Softball Recap: Summit Takes a Loss

If Summit was riding high fresh off their 16-7 takedown of Monrovia last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Summit SkyHawks fell just short of the Rancho Cucamonga Cougars by a score of 5-4 on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the SkyHawks in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now lost four in a row.

Summit got a good showing from Celeste Ibarra, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That hit was Ibarra's first of the season.

On the hitting side, Alani Lopez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. MiaMelinda Perez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Summit's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Rancho Cucamonga, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0.

Summit wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 4-2 defeat against Los Osos on the 25th. As for Rancho Cucamonga, they have also already played their next game, an 11-1 win against Kaiser on the 25th.
