Football Recap: Chaparral Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Murrieta Valley + How To Watch

Chaparral faced Murrieta Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Pumas took a 56-42 bruising from the Nighthawks. If the Pumas were looking for revenge after losing 56-22 to the Nighthawks when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Chaparral lost, don't look at Dane Weber. Despite the final result, he threw for 440 yards and five TDs while picking up 12.9 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 53 yards and one touchdown. With that strong performance, Weber is now averaging an impressive 308.3 passing yards per game. Chaparral's leading receiver Eli Woodard was Weber's top target yet again, picking up 180 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Jeremiah Watson produced another solid performance rushing for 281 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry for Murrieta Valley. Those six rushing touchdowns gave Watson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ty Isaia, who rushed for 92 yards on only eight carries.

Chaparral now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Murrieta Valley, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1.
