Preview: Churubusco Eagles vs. Lakeland Lakers
Churubusco is 2-7 against Lakeland since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Churubusco Eagles on the road again and play against the Lakeland Lakers at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Indiana (Churubusco is ranked 307th, while Lakeland is ranked 322nd).
Churubusco suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They fell just short of West Noble by a score of 34-31. Churubusco found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post seven fewer assists than your opponent.
Despite the defeat, Churubusco got a solid performance out of Brooklyn Sinclair, who scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sinclair has scored all season. Alyssa Eby was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven rebounds.
Lakeland suffered their biggest defeat since December 9, 2023 on Thursday. They suffered a tough 47-23 loss at the hands of Fairfield. Lakeland's defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Katelyn Ryan, who scored 11 points.
Churubusco has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. Lakeland's record is now 3-15.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Churubusco have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 22.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Lakeland, though, as they've been averaging only 25.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Churubusco came up short against Lakeland in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 62-57. Can Churubusco avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
