Grant never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Montgomery on Friday. They walked away with a 10-7 win over the Tigers. Considering the Cougars' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Peyton Kirtland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Carleigh Roe was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Audeleigh Carpenter, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
Grant's victory bumped their record up to 14-11. As for Montgomery, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-9.
Looking ahead, Grant will look to defend their home field on Friday against Fairview at 5:00 p.m. As for Montgomery, they will host Plainview at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
