Football Recap: Pen Argyl Comes Up Short

While it was all tied up 7-7 at halftime, Pen Argyl was not quite Saucon Valley's equal in the second half on Saturday. They took a 24-7 bruising from the Panthers. The defeat continues a trend for the Green Knights in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost seven in a row.

Mason Soos threw for 136 yards and one touchdown. Anthony Beltran was his top target, picking up 46 receiving yards. On the ground, Zachary Metzgar rushed for 38 yards.

Saucon Valley found their leader in freshman Taylor Rohn, who rushed for 83 yards and a pair of TDs, and also picked up 34 receiving yards. Rohn didn't just play on offense: he also made eight total tackles and defended one pass. Zakary Ziegler made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

The loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 5-3. As for Saucon Valley, they pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Pen Argyl will welcome Catasauqua at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Green Knights will be up against the Rough Riders' rather soft defense (which has allowed 31.75 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Saucon Valley, they will head out on the road to challenge Southern Lehigh at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Spartans have now posted at least 31 points in their last five contests.
